This article is inspired by one of my favorite poets of all time — Sarah Kay. In her TED talk — If I Should Have a Daughter, she speaks about this exercise that she’d do with the class of high-school students. It is astounding the kind of insights one comes across while making a list of 10 ten things. Perhaps the first three things come easy but for the rest you walk through the lanes of your memories — the fresh ones, the ones you bury and the ones you revisit, reflecting upon the sunshine and storm life showered your way.

This is a list of 10 things I know to be true no matter what —

1. Personal well-being is primary and the foundation for everything, work relationships and money follow. It is impossible to give to the world with an empty glass. The truth is we all want to give.
2. A lot of worse case situations that I concoct in my head never happen.
3. When hungry and in doubt go for a tried and tested restaurant.
4. There’s no situation that’s entirely good or bad, if I see closely in the most testing times there was a silver lining - developing a close friendship during hardship or discovering kickboxing to get over a heart break. Similarly even in the best of the situations there had been thorns.
5. A workout never ever fails to lift my spirit.
6. Meaning matters more than money when it comes to work. I want to be honest to myself when it does not click and explore to find what lights the inner spark.
7. At the base of procrastination there’s often fear - A fear of not knowing where to start, making a mistake, disappointing someone.
8. Older the friendships more comfortable the silences. There’s no need to explain the absences, you pick up where you left off and you know they’d be there for you come what may. Time builds deeper relationships and understanding.
9. The sweeter feeling than being loved is being able to pour all your love in entirety.
10. It is absolutely amazing to have a routine to stick to it day after day. The amount of freedom it unlocks is amazing . I want to invest time in building solid habits and a routine.
11. (Bonus) Scrolling is an avoidance mechanism, I ask myself what is it that I am refusing to acknowledge?
